Hey there Bad Asses,

We’ve had a lot of new folks signup to the Bad Ass Bookshelf recently and we wanted to say a HUGE welcome to each and everyone of you. And of course, to say hi to those of you who have been with us a little longer.

For those who are new around here, let’s explain how it works a little:

Towards the each of each month, the Bad Ass Bookshelf votes for the book we’re going to cover in the coming month.

Today, our Bad Ass Bookworm members will have the opportunity to vote for which out of the 3 incredible books below they’d like to read in November. The winning book will be announced next week and our members will chat all month long about the book on our dedicated Discord channel.

At the end of the month, we come together via video call to chat through and review the book we’ve just read.

While it is completely free to be on these emails and see which books we are all reading, the voting as well as participating in the Discord chat and book club calls is exclusive to our paying Bad Ass Bookworm members.

Both monthly and annual subscription options are available (it’s cheaper than Netflix and much better for your brain)

We’d love to see each and everyone of you inside our warm and welcoming community where we discuss how to apply what we’ve learnt reading some of the most powerful and effective books ever written.

So why no join us today!

The shortlist

For next month, we’ve shortlisted three books that that shape how we grow, adapt, and overcome challenges. Each of these books explores a different side of progress, from the power of perseverance, to the art of thinking ahead, to unlocking potential in ourselves and others. Which one will you be reading with us next month?

1. Grit by Angela Duckworth

What really drives success? Talent or perseverance? Psychologist Angela Duckworth argues that it is not luck or genius that sets people apart, but something far more powerful. Through stories from cadets at West Point, teachers in tough schools, and business leaders who refuse to quit, she reveals how passion and persistence can outlast raw ability. Grit challenges everything we think we know about what it takes to achieve. If you enjoyed Quit last month, this one is the perfect counterpoint and will have you questioning when it is worth pushing through and when it is not.

2. Upstream by Dan Heath

We spend so much of our lives reacting to problems rather than preventing them. In Upstream, Dan Heath explores why we fall into this trap and how the best leaders and organisations learn to look ahead. Through real world examples, from public health to business to education, he shows how small shifts in thinking can stop crises before they ever begin. This is an inspiring, practical book about changing your perspective, solving problems at their root, and building systems that work better for everyone.

3. Hidden Potential by Adam Grant

What if greatness is not about being naturally gifted but about how we grow and adapt along the way? In his latest book, Adam Grant explores the science of improvement and the hidden factors that help people rise. From how we learn and practice, to the environments that bring out the best in us, Grant draws on powerful research and personal stories to show that potential is not fixed but developed. It is an uplifting and thought provoking read that will leave you rethinking what achievement really means and how to unlock more of it in yourself and others.
