Hey Bad Asses!
Far out, how cool was The Founders in July?
A massive highlight obviously was having author Jimmy Soni join us for our end of month call! If you weren’t able to join the chat, don’t worry - we got you. You can catch the recording here.
You can also check out his latest work When the Light Find Us which he co-authored with Judy Henderson who spent 35 years in prison for a crime she didn’t commit.
But now for something completely different…
While there was a lot of love from the club for The Founders, its description of PayPal’s all or nothing, hardcore work culture certainly didn’t exactly appeal to everyone.
However, your choice of book for July should hopefully balance things out a little. Scroll on down to find out how the Bad Ass Bookshelf members voted for the July book.
♦ And as always, don’t forget to join us for our end of month book club call to be held on the 31st July at 17:00 GMT (12:00 EST / 09:00 PST)
﹅ Our July pick is…

Slow Productivity
By Cal Newport
If last month’s book, The Founders, was all about speed (long hours, fast growth, intense ambition), this one’s about pressing pause. Newport takes a good hard look at our obsession with doing more and instead makes a case for a different kind of productivity. One that’s slower. Calmer. More focused.
Rather than chasing endless to-do lists and burning out in the process, Slow Productivity explores how we can get important things done without constantly running ourselves into the ground. He talks about working at a sustainable pace, being really selective about what we take on, and prioritising quality over quantity.
If you're feeling stretched, overwhelmed, or just a bit allergic to hustle culture right now, this one’s for you.
More soon on how we’ll be tackling the book together, but for now, grab yourself a copy and get stuck in!
Buy it now: You can listen to it on Spotify or Audible or get the ebook on Kindle. If you’re buying a physical copy, please try to buy second-hand or from a local, independent store whenever possible.
Otherwise, here’s a link to buy the book on Amazon.
● Why you chose Slow Productivity
It was a close race but we were pretty sure it was going to go to Mel Robbins for the longest time. But then out of nowhere Cal Newport’s book shot out in front and stayed there.
We thought Sahil Bloom might do a little better, but oh well. Slow Productivity it is!
